Most of you know by now that I enjoy watching children. Oh yes, I love to teach them, but I also learn from observing them.

The ‘Right’ Way
By Charles Strohacker @ 12:14 PM :: 284 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Devotional, Faith
This wise old principal was a good person who faithfully loved and served his Lord, but I couldn’t agree with his reasoning. Not everyone does what they do for what we might call the ‘right’ reason. Over the years, I’ve had people tell me the right (and wrong) way to do just about everything, even pray.  Mostly pray, in fact.  And I know they all meant well.

A Blast from the Past
By Charles Strohacker @ 10:06 AM :: 353 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Devotional, Education, Faith

But the question she posed reminded me of a time in 5th grade back at Golgotha Lutheran School on Chicago's South Side.  It was probably about 1963.  My teacher, Miss Wilcer, one of the most creative teachers I ever had, brought in Michelob beer bottles for an art lesson.

All of my schools have had a ‘Lost & Found’ box, but I learned very early in my career that not everything in that box was truly lost.

Suppose…?
By Charles Strohacker @ 10:29 AM :: 333 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Faith, Personal
“Suppose.” Let’s be frank. We’re really not supposing anything here are we? You already have something or someone in mind.

More Or Less…
By Charles Strohacker @ 12:06 PM :: 436 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Education, Faith
There are more channels on TV…but at times it seems like there is less to watch. I’ve complained that bathtubs have less room than they used to, but most people just laugh at me, and that hurts my feelings…

LSW 2006 - Lutheran Teachers
By Charles Strohacker @ 9:50 AM :: 440 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Education, Faith
I wrote today's entry in March of 2006, leading up to that year's NLSW celebration, sent it out to a number of friends and got some positive responses but never published it.  I may have put it out on the Listserve, but I really can't remember.  Perhaps it will remind you of some of the special teachers who blessed your years in Lutheran schools.  Now you, too, are one of those blessings.  God bless your Lutheran Schools Week.

87...27...Ready...Set...
By Charles Strohacker @ 8:07 AM :: 458 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Devotional, Faith

There is a solitary hearse outside my office window this morning and a fairly empty parking lot.  As usual, the Kindergarten teacher is concerned about what time the funeral will begin, when it will end, and...will this disrupt Kindergarten pick-up at 11:25 a.m.?

Which Way Are You Looking?
By Charles Strohacker @ 8:03 AM :: 448 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Devotional, Faith
The focus is always forward – toward preparing for what is out in front of the athlete. Things an athlete has overcome in the past must remain in the past - a serious injury, a horrific fall, previous losses, even the loss of her mother for one of the skaters. Eyes must be forward and on the goal, the prize.

Are You Smarter Than…?
By Charles Strohacker @ 2:01 PM :: 485 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Devotional, Faith
Fortunately for me, and for you, too, we don’t have to be smarter than a fifth grader or smarter than the devil. Our salvation isn’t based on how much we know but rather on whom we know – Jesus.

The message below is something I sent out today to our Board of Christian Education, keeping them in touch not just with Interactive Board technology, the Computer Lab, the Art program, how our Basketball Teams did this past weekend, our MEAP scores, etc., but also how our students have been involved in the mission of God's Church to God's children around the world.

New

No, I didn’t break any windows or put out anyone’s eye. But when I looked at the barrel of the bat, a wooden bat because aluminum had not yet been discovered when I was a kid, there was a deep gouge right above the label. My new bat…
