More Or Less…
By Charles Strohacker @ 12:06 PM :: 105 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Education, Faith
There are more channels on TV…but at times it seems like there is less to watch. I’ve complained that bathtubs have less room than they used to, but most people just laugh at me, and that hurts my feelings…

Spell Check
By Charles Strohacker @ 7:59 PM :: 170 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Education, Humor

Spelling counts.  There are a couple of misspellings on the sign in the picture - a new sign that recently went up at our mall.  Look to where the arrow is pointing.  I'm sure they meant to say "banned" but they said "baned."

And "baned" is a word...

An Unprecedented Amount

You are a teacher, parent, grandparent, etc. (select all that apply) and I am a teacher, parent, grandparent. And, unless you are very different from me, nobody has sent you a check yet for loving and teaching your kids.

LSW 2006 - Lutheran Teachers
By Charles Strohacker @ 9:50 AM :: 156 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Education, Faith
I wrote today's entry in March of 2006, leading up to that year's NLSW celebration, sent it out to a number of friends and got some positive responses but never published it.  I may have put it out on the Listserve, but I really can't remember.  Perhaps it will remind you of some of the special teachers who blessed your years in Lutheran schools.  Now you, too, are one of those blessings.  God bless your Lutheran Schools Week.

Who Is My Neighbor?
By Charles Strohacker @ 9:01 AM :: 248 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Education, Faith

The message below is something I sent out today to our Board of Christian Education, keeping them in touch not just with Interactive Board technology, the Computer Lab, the Art program, how our Basketball Teams did this past weekend, our MEAP scores, etc., but also how our students have been involved in the mission of God's Church to God's children around the world.

Life Sunday
By Charles Strohacker @ 8:17 PM :: 277 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Devotional, Education

This coming Sunday is Life Sunday, and our 4th grade teacher/Band Director, Tom Farrand, is active in Lutherans For Life.  He provides lots of leadership in our church and school, will lead this Sunday's Bible Class, and led us in a terrific Chapel worship today.  Tom used enlarged baby pictures of our Faculty and Staff to create a guessing game and engage our students in today's lesson about the Sanctity of Human Life and God's great love for us in Jesus.

Think
By Charles Strohacker @ 9:34 PM :: 313 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Education

"Do you ever have a feeling inside yourself when you just know, 'I'm going to get into trouble today'?"  I can't recall a kid ever telling me, "No."  Invariably, they seem to be able to identify "that" feeling when they know before school ever starts, that 'this is going to be a bad day.'  That's a great first step.

What's In A Name?
By Charles Strohacker @ 8:46 AM :: 584 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Education, Humor

About half way through closing devotion one afternoon, and after the umpteenth time of pronouncing Juan as "Joo On" and Jose with a hard J sound and only one syllable (sort of like 'hose' but with a J), the kids began to look confused and finally asked, "What in the world is he reading?"  Pesco showed the devotion to a classmate who broke out laughing and provided the correct pronunciation:  "Whan" and "Ho-Za" (long 'o' and long 'a').  We all had a good laugh, including Pesco.

Now, this "research project" does not tell you the difference between 3rd and 4th graders; it only tells you the difference between this year's third grade and fourth grade classes.  But you knew that...

No Talking
By Charles Strohacker @ 1:48 PM :: 732 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Books, Education

We had gone down that road of, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."  So I decided that the next step should logically be:  "You can't say anything at all to each other...or else."
