What is closer to the truth for me, however, is probably that even though I was a government major in college, there has always been a part of me that has seldom gotten overly worried about parties, candidates, or politics in general.  Amused?  Yes, often.  Concerned?  Seldom.
 

I guess predicting the weather long-range (or sometimes even short-range for that matter) can be pretty uncertain.  The predictions can be as changeable as…well, the weather. 

Now there is actually nothing shameful about being called a servant.  Moses, Joshua, and David were all called God’s servant, and Paul counted the title as an honor.  Still, Jesus said, “I have called you friends.”  What is the difference?

“Dear Charles, (well, I didn’t say we were close friends) I messed up.”

But the question she posed reminded me of a time in 5th grade back at Golgotha Lutheran School on Chicago's South Side.  It was probably about 1963.  My teacher, Miss Wilcer, one of the most creative teachers I ever had, brought in Michelob beer bottles for an art lesson.

All of my schools have had a ‘Lost & Found’ box, but I learned very early in my career that not everything in that box was truly lost. 

I've learned about this 'what goes up, must come down' stuff several times with my ladder. 

I set down a glass of cold milk and an unspecified amount of warm chocolate chip cookies on the table next to my chair and, after turning my back for just a few seconds, I came back into the living room to find...

I don’t have all the answers, nor can I begin to understand the ways of God who loves us so…but I believe.

There is a solitary hearse outside my office window this morning and a fairly empty parking lot.  As usual, the Kindergarten teacher is concerned about what time the funeral will begin, when it will end, and...will this disrupt Kindergarten pick-up at 11:25 a.m.?
