The Prize
By Charles Strohacker @ 1:22 PM :: 58 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Personal, Family

While most of us fretted and were constantly trying to work around the drips at the bottom of the ice cream mountain, keeping them from running down the cone and eventually over our hand, down an arm and then all over us, Mom started at the top and just worked her way down seemingly oblivious to the mess.

Age - Relevant...But Relative
By Charles Strohacker @ 11:02 AM :: 59 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Personal, Humor

Several 'old men' raised their hands...and then their eyes widened as if they had seen a ghost.  That ghost was me - their 8th grade teacher back in 1974.  Actually, they thought I was 'old' then in 1974, but to find me still alive 36 years later seemed unbelievable.

Who Ya Gonna Call?
By Charles Strohacker @ 1:45 PM :: 414 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Personal, Humor

A nice quiet end to this week, a week in which I had to visit with each faculty member and have 'that talk' about more structure, not less at the end of the school year, a peaceful Friday afternoon until...I hear screaming from the Boys' Restroom down the hall.  Isn't there an old Ray Stevens song about "The Day the Squirrel Came to Church"?  Well, today the chipmunk came to school...

All this healthful discussion took place while consuming an assortment of breakfast sandwiches, burritos, lots of Senior Coffees and, of course, Arnie's morning standard - a hot fudge sundae.

Fallen Man
By Charles Strohacker @ 1:00 PM :: 626 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Personal, Humor

Ah, so often that's how it is with the fallen man.  "I hope nobody saw me."  As if that somehow changes the fact that we have fallen...again.

One More Step Into Geezerhood
By Charles Strohacker @ 9:00 PM :: 571 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Personal, Humor
Three 5th grade boys eager to haul more branches. In one glimpse I got of them, all three seemed to be in the air at the same time, no feet touching the ground! Reminded me of that song we did in a kid’s musical years ago – that one with the refrain, “Walking and leaping and praising God! Walking and leaping and praising God….!”

Missing Mom
By Charles Strohacker @ 2:27 PM :: 629 Views :: 1 Comments :: Article Rating :: Personal
Even when you’re older, I guess you need to know that someone is still around to ‘watch over you.’ Maybe that’s why occasionally now I picture myself in the middle of that scene with Jesus.

The Celebration!

Then she brought me over to meet Bradley - tiny, perfect and all in blue.  And while I sat in amazement looking at the new child, Hayden went off to gather more people:  her teacher, my secretary, other moms dropping their kids off for Preschool, the Preschool Aide...  Everyone had to gather in the hallway and meet Bradley - we had an impromptu birthday party!  It was a wonder!!

Up On The Rooftop...
By Charles Strohacker @ 5:57 PM :: 814 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Personal, Humor

Lots of nice inquiries and responses from folks concerned about my wellbeing, both physical and mental, ever since my fall.  Thanks.  Apparently 95% of people know someone who has fallen off a roof or ladder or have personal experience, so I've heard lots of stories.  One such e-mail follows; this guy is a few years older than me and a former Lutheran principal:

Uncle Norm
By Charles Strohacker @ 9:10 AM :: 1235 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Devotional, Faith, Personal, Family
The thing I remember most about Norm was that he was an incredible Christian gentleman. No, let me state that differently. Norm was an incredible Christian gentle man (two words). Now, that doesn’t mean he wasn’t a ‘man’s man’ or a manly man...

Do Not Let Your Left Hand Know What Your Right Hand Is Doing
By Charles Strohacker @ 2:57 PM :: 927 Views :: 1 Comments :: Article Rating :: Personal, Humor

One Sunday night our team was bowling against Wif's, and Diane had a very good first game.  The second game started out even better, but as she leaned over to pick up her ball from the ball return to start the third frame, Wif, who was sitting next to me at the scorer's table, asked me, "Does she always do that with her right hand when she releases the ball?"  You know, of course, that he said it just loud enough for Diane to hear him.
