LSW 2006 - Lutheran Teachers
By Charles Strohacker @ 9:50 AM :: 10 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Education, Faith
I wrote today's entry in March of 2006, leading up to that year's NLSW celebration, sent it out to a number of friends and got some positive responses but never published it.  I may have put it out on the Listserve, but I really can't remember.  Perhaps it will remind you of some of the special teachers who blessed your years in Lutheran schools.  Now you, too, are one of those blessings.  God bless your Lutheran Schools Week.

87...27...Ready...Set...
By Charles Strohacker @ 8:07 AM :: 15 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Devotional, Faith

There is a solitary hearse outside my office window this morning and a fairly empty parking lot.  As usual, the Kindergarten teacher is concerned about what time the funeral will begin, when it will end, and...will this disrupt Kindergarten pick-up at 11:25 a.m.?

Which Way Are You Looking?
By Charles Strohacker @ 8:03 AM :: 19 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Devotional, Faith
The focus is always forward – toward preparing for what is out in front of the athlete. Things an athlete has overcome in the past must remain in the past - a serious injury, a horrific fall, previous losses, even the loss of her mother for one of the skaters. Eyes must be forward and on the goal, the prize.

Are You Smarter Than…?
By Charles Strohacker @ 2:01 PM :: 22 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Devotional, Faith
Fortunately for me, and for you, too, we don’t have to be smarter than a fifth grader or smarter than the devil. Our salvation isn’t based on how much we know but rather on whom we know – Jesus.

Snow Everywhere
By Charles Strohacker @ 8:03 PM :: 41 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: General

Seems like everyone is getting lots of snow.  A photo of the Lake Michigan off Silver Beach in St. Joseph, MI.  The sign caught my eye...and that white stuff is Lake Michigan.

Who Is My Neighbor?
By Charles Strohacker @ 9:01 AM :: 58 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Education, Faith

The message below is something I sent out today to our Board of Christian Education, keeping them in touch not just with Interactive Board technology, the Computer Lab, the Art program, how our Basketball Teams did this past weekend, our MEAP scores, etc., but also how our students have been involved in the mission of God's Church to God's children around the world.

Old Guys Breakfast
By Charles Strohacker @ 8:05 PM :: 72 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Personal, Humor

All this healthful discussion took place while consuming an assortment of breakfast sandwiches, burritos, lots of Senior Coffees and, of course, Arnie's morning standard - a hot fudge sundae.

Life Sunday
By Charles Strohacker @ 8:17 PM :: 84 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Devotional, Education

This coming Sunday is Life Sunday, and our 4th grade teacher/Band Director, Tom Farrand, is active in Lutherans For Life.  He provides lots of leadership in our church and school, will lead this Sunday's Bible Class, and led us in a terrific Chapel worship today.  Tom used enlarged baby pictures of our Faculty and Staff to create a guessing game and engage our students in today's lesson about the Sanctity of Human Life and God's great love for us in Jesus.

New
By Charles Strohacker @ 8:36 PM :: 136 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Devotional, Faith
No, I didn’t break any windows or put out anyone’s eye. But when I looked at the barrel of the bat, a wooden bat because aluminum had not yet been discovered when I was a kid, there was a deep gouge right above the label. My new bat…

Fallen Man
By Charles Strohacker @ 1:00 PM :: 136 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Personal, Humor

Ah, so often that's how it is with the fallen man.  "I hope nobody saw me."  As if that somehow changes the fact that we have fallen...again.

One More Step Into Geezerhood
By Charles Strohacker @ 9:00 PM :: 136 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Personal, Humor
Three 5th grade boys eager to haul more branches. In one glimpse I got of them, all three seemed to be in the air at the same time, no feet touching the ground! Reminded me of that song we did in a kid’s musical years ago – that one with the refrain, “Walking and leaping and praising God! Walking and leaping and praising God….!”

The Pleaser
By Charles Strohacker @ 9:22 AM :: 126 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Education

What classified Snooky as a “pleaser” is the fact that after learning all the various commands and tricks, only one command was ever necessary: “Sit.”

Think
By Charles Strohacker @ 9:34 PM :: 182 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Education

"Do you ever have a feeling inside yourself when you just know, 'I'm going to get into trouble today'?"  I can't recall a kid ever telling me, "No."  Invariably, they seem to be able to identify "that" feeling when they know before school ever starts, that 'this is going to be a bad day.'  That's a great first step.

Missing Mom
By Charles Strohacker @ 2:27 PM :: 295 Views :: 1 Comments :: Article Rating :: Personal
Even when you’re older, I guess you need to know that someone is still around to ‘watch over you.’ Maybe that’s why occasionally now I picture myself in the middle of that scene with Jesus.

What's In A Name?
By Charles Strohacker @ 8:46 AM :: 430 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Education, Humor

About half way through closing devotion one afternoon, and after the umpteenth time of pronouncing Juan as "Joo On" and Jose with a hard J sound and only one syllable (sort of like 'hose' but with a J), the kids began to look confused and finally asked, "What in the world is he reading?"  Pesco showed the devotion to a classmate who broke out laughing and provided the correct pronunciation:  "Whan" and "Ho-Za" (long 'o' and long 'a').  We all had a good laugh, including Pesco.

Rhonda used to belong to a Lutheran church, but several years ago she and the family transferred membership to The Evangelical Free Church By The Babbling Brook That Meanders Through The Quiet Meadow, a small church with a large sign out front.
